Bellator Fighting Championship announced today that it will hold its inaugural Light Heavyweight tournament during Season Four, scheduled to start in March 2011 and air on MTV2. “We’ve wanted to add a Light Heavyweight World Championship Tournament since Season 1, but wanted to ensure that when we did it, we had a great group fighting for the title,” Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney is quoted as saying in the press release. “Now, we do.” According to the press release, Bellator will be announcing confirmed tournament participants in the coming days.
The promotion currently boasts champions in all men’s divisions but Flyweight and Light Heavyweight. Those champions are Zach Makovsky (#8 Bantamweight), Joe Warren (#2 Featherweight), Eddie Alvarez (#10 Lightweight), Ben Askren (#16 Welterweight), Hector Lombard (#7 Middleweight), Cole Konrad (#20 Heavyweight), and Zoila Frausto, who will likely be at the top of the heap when FIGHT! unveils its Women’s Flyweight Rankings.
