You already recognize some of names and faces from the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” but there’s a lot you probably still don’t know about this group of 16 heavyweight warriors. We’ve been introducing you to two castmembers of “The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights” every day for more than a week. Today, FIGHT! reveals our our TUF bloggers, Matt Mitrione and Abe Wagner.
Abe Wagner
Age: 29
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 265 lbs
Hometown: Elcho, Wisc.
Trains: Omaha, Neb. – MidAmerica Martial Arts
MMA record: 6-2
Growing up, Abe Wagner lived in a variety of places ranging from Milwaukee, Wisc. to Kansas to Colorado Springs, Colo., before settling down in Elcho, Wisc. At Elko High School, Wagner excelled in both football and basketball. He enrolled in Michigan Tech University in 1998 and played outside linebacker on the school’s football team before receiving his degree in mechanical engineering in 2002.
The physicality of football was a part of Wagner’s life for more than eight years, and, needing a similar outlet, he started training in mixed martial arts in 2005 with MidAmerica Martial Arts in Omaha, Neb., while working as Director of Finance and Operations for a burgeoning industrial supply company. Wagner has since compiled a 6-2 professional record, with four of his wins coming by TKO or KO. His athletic ability, combined with his intellectual background, will serve as tremendous assets as he strives to become “The Ultimate Fighter.”
