The UFC announced late last night that rather than air preliminary card fights from UFC 125: Resolution on SPIKE TV or UFC.com, as the company has done in the past, it will broadcast three preliminary fights live on ION Television starting at 8:55 p.m. EST on Sat., Jan. 1.
Formerly known as PAX and i: Independent Television, ION began broadcasting Christian and family-friendly content in the late 1990s. The company slowly moved away from faith-based content over the next ten years, cycling through deals to air syndicated content from a variety of major studios, including Warner Bros. Television Distribution, Sony Pictures Television, 20th Century Fox Television, CBS Television Distribution, and Paramount Pictures. ION reaches almost 100 million households but it is currently the smallest and least-watched English language terrestrial broadcast network in the United States. You can find ION on the dial and on cable in most major markets by visiting the company’s website.
The aired fights will include Phil Baroni (#102 Middleweight) vs. Brad Tavares, Josh Grispi (#5 Featherweight) vs. Dustin Poirier, and the lightweight debut of Marcus Davis (#44 Welterweight) vs. Jeremy Stephens (#31 Lightweight) in a highly-anticipated lightweight clash.
